On the morning of October 8, Le Van Cuong, a resident on Hung Vuong Street in Da Nang, found a woman, about 60 years old, and a girl, about 8 or 9 years old, lying together on the roadside in the rain.
Cuong then gave them food and the Dai A Hotel on nearby Yen Bai Street provided them with accommodation free of charge. Cuong and some other locals later took the two to the Hai Chau District police for assistance.
The girl told police that her name in Vietnamese is Ngo Xuan and her father’s name is Ngo Thong.
The two have no personal papers, but Xuan wore a coat showing the logo of a Chinese children sponsor center, police said.
Xuan said she and her disabled mother were searching for her father in China and then entered Vietnam accidentally.
Meanwhile, Phap Luat Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (HCM City Law) Newspaper reported that the Chinese woman and girl had taken a bus from Nuoc Ngam Bus Station in Hanoi to Da Nang to look for the girl’s father.
The police and the Immigration Department in Da Nang are clarifying the identity of the Chinese woman and girl to help return them to China.
