City honors heroic mothers on War Invalids, Martyrs Day
Ho Chi Minh City leaders visited and offered gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers and relatives of war martyrs on July 25, to mark the 65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Le Hoang Quan, chairman of HCMC People’s Committee, led a delegation to the Sanatorium and Rehabilitation Hospital in District 8 to visit and offer gifts to two heroic mothers Nguyen Thi Khuyen and Nguyen Thi Het, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Mr. Quan ordered all hospital staff to consider the mothers as their own relatives and provide the best of care for them. On this occasion the city gave VND20 million (US$1,000) for meals for 100 people in the hospital whose families in serving the cause of the nation’s revolution.

Also to mark the occasion, Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, deputy secretary of the City Party Committee and chairwoman of the City People’s Council, met with heroic mothers Nguyen Thi Loan, Nguyen Thi Ut and Van Thi Xuan in District 10 and Tan Binh District to express her admiration and thank them for their contributions during war time.

Elsewhere in town, Than Thi Thu, head of the Department of Propaganda and Education of the HCMC Party Committee, paid a visit to heroic mothers Huynh Thi Hai, Le Thi Dung, Truong Thi Moi, Nguyen Thi Co, Nguyen Thi Bay, Nguyen Thi Hue and Dao Thi Nhiep in their homes in Tan Hiep, Xuan Thoi Son, Xuan Thoi Thuong and Ba Diem Communes in Hoc Mon District in HCMC.

Major General Nguyen Chi Thanh, director of the City Police Department, arrived in Binh Chanh District to visit six heroic mothers including two very elderly Dang Thi Tu and Pham Thi The.

Major General Truong Van Hai, of the City High Command, sat at a meeting with 60 wounded heroes of People’s Armed Forces and children of martyrs. Participants were each presented with a gift worth VND2.5 million.

Nguyen Van Ranh from the HCMC Party Committee attended a meeting to honor 200 martyrs mothers and wives and wounded female soldiers. The Women’s Association on this occasion gave each martyrs relative a present worth VND300,000.

The City Fatherland Front leaders also visited the houses of 12 heroic mothers in Districts 12, Go Vap, Cu Chi and Binh Chanh with gifts.
