Facebook helps girl reunite with mom after 18 yrs
A Vietnamese female student has found her mother who left 18 years ago after posting a message on Facebook. They reunited on Monday (September 10).

21-year-old Cu Thi Kim Ngan and her mother Le Thi Oanh Nga, 44, have not been in contact since 1994 when the latter left Phu Tho northern province for the south.

Ngan posted a status message in Vietnamese on her Facebook’s wall last Wednesday to seek help from the online community and waited for a miracle.

“Dear mom, my grandmom is now in the final stage of cancer. Where are you? Come back to her right now, mom. Please return home even for only one time so that my grandmom can peacefully go into a long sleep,” reads her message.

“It’s ok for me to have no mother but my grandmom needs you, needs a real child to be by her side at this time. Come back to my grandmom and me, mom,” it adds.

Ngan also posted a photo of her mother.

Not long after appearing online, the message received 3,000 shares and more than 13,000 comments.

Just 24 hours after the message was posted, Ngan received a text message from a Facebook user in Ho Chi Minh City who informed her of her mom’s whereabouts and helped Ngan contact her.

Cu Thi Kim Ngan (R) has found her mother (L), who left her 18 years ago thanks to a message on Facebook.

“Our search ended. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but reuniting with my mom is really a big satisfaction. I, once again, would like to extend grateful thanks to my friends on Facebook most of whom I’ve never seen in person,” Ngan wrote after seeing her mother for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Ngan, whose father died three years ago, is currently a student at the Institute of Journalism and Propaganda in Hanoi.

She told Tuoi Tre News by phone on Wednesday that her grandmother has passed away peacefully, adding she was very happy to meet her mom before death.

When asked why her mother left her alone 18 years ago, Ngan said: “She told me she had reasons and I did not ask more. I respected her.”

According to the final-year student, her mother is running a shop in Ho Chi Minh City.
