The Roode family of Heideveld was reunited with their 78 year father, Gamat Roode, after he went missing. It was alleged that the 78 year old went to evening prayers at the Heideveld Mosque and he did not return home. Manenberg SAPS was alerted and an all points broadcast went out.
We had no leads to give us direction and no one saw him. The Pink Ladies that deal with missing person circulated flyers with the help of the family. A lady then called on Tuesday 28th February 2012 to say that she saw him on the train to Wellington. We had no clue to where he would go.
Our next call was on Wednesday 29th February 2012 this lady was 100% sure that she saw him get off at Mutual station, Maitland, on the Voortrekker side. We immediately dispatched a vehicle in the vicinity and made contact with the Maitland SAPS. He was found by SAPS members after they saw him earlier; they went back and found him. He was in good health and was happy to be home in time for his wife’s birthday. We reunited the family after an extensive search. We would like to advise the community to make sure they knew where their children were and what they are busy with and this must also include their frail parents especially if they suffer from dementia.
