The Minister of Health, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, has instructed Viet Duc Hospital to provide free medical services to war veteran Phan Huu Duoc, who was believed to have been dead for 40 years, but suddenly reappeared in his hometown.

After his first medical exam at Haiphong Medical Hospital, in Haiphong City, Duoc was sent to K Hospital in Hanoi for further treatment. He was then sent to Viet Xo Friendship Hospital for radiographies. But, due to a lack of specialists, he had to be transported back to Haiphong.

As soon as the information surfaced, the Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/DTiNews, Pham Huy Hoan invited Duoc and his relatives to Hanoi and took them to Viet Duc Hospital for a thorough medical check-up.

The general of the hospital, Nguyen Tien Quyet, personally administered the check-up, and the war veteran was, by all accounts, treated warmly by the staff.

The minister has also asked the director of Viet Duc Hospital to use the most advanced treatments available with the equipment they had, adding that any difficulties would be supplemented by help by relevant agencies.

Speaking with DTiNews, Director Nguyen Tien Quyet said Mr. Duoc will be hospitalised soon for the treatment. He will instruct faculties to use the most modern medical technologies available to them for his diagnosis and treatment.

Recently, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung provided VND10 million (USD476) from his own salary to help support the Vietnamese veteran in his healthcare and to reestablish his life.
