Police in northern Quang Ninh Province have detained a woman who kidnapped a 9-month-old boy and wanted to sell him to China. The baby was rescued and returned to his family safely.

32-year-old Le Thi Mo, a native of Thanh Hoa Province, was arrested in Quang Ninh’s Mong Cai Town on Friday morning when she, with the baby in her arms, was about to cross the border to China, the town police reported.

Local police had received reports from their counterparts in Thanh Hoa and Dong Nai Provinces about the kidnapping of the baby, Duong Hoang Anh, in Dong Nai's Trang Bom District on January 29.

In these reports, investigators suspected that Mo could bring the baby to China for sale.

Quang Ninh police had searched for Mo everywhere, including in hotels and bus stations, and they finally detected and seized her in a border area in Mong Cai’s Ninh Duong Ward at 6 am February 1.

The police took the baby back from Mo and returned him to his mother, 33-year-old Le Thi Long, the same day.

Mo confessed to the police that she had kidnapped the baby, from his home in Hamlet 2, Song Trau Commune, Trang Bom District.

Mo said she wanted to bring the boy to China to sell him to some Chinese people who wanted to buy Vietnamese baby boys.
