Vietnamese authorities are still looking for the families of eight of 10 newborns rescued from a trafficking ring in China last year.
A report on Vietnam Television's news website Wednesday said the babies have been kept at a social welfare center in Fangchengang city, Guangxi Province, since being rescued on July 15 last year.
Two of their families have been identified and procedures are being completed to return them.
The Ministry of Public Security’s social crimes investigation department, or C45, said the babies were brought from southern provinces to Mong Cai town on the border before being sent to China by boat through the Ka Long River, which flows to Dongxing city in Guangxi.
They were between 10 days and seven months old at the time the gang was busted, according to the department.
The trafficking was done by a Chinese gang with the help of 10 Vietnamese nationals, C45 said, adding that the Vietnamese and 14 Chinese are facing trafficking charges in China.
