According to Song Lo District’s police, a DNA test is being conducted to identify if the right leg and the left arm discovered on July 1 belonged to Nguyen Thi Thinh, who has been missing since June 17.
Nguyen Thi Thinh, 17, who went missing on June 17, may have been murdered and mutilated in the northern province of Vinh Phuc
Police said the leg was found drifting on a section of the Hong River in Hanoi’s Phuc Tho District on the morning of July 1, while the arm was discovered later that day near the Then ferry station in Vinh Phuc’s Song Lo District.
Both limbs were decomposing and identified to have been amputated from the body of a young woman.
Local people in Song Lo said that before recovering the arm, they had seen two things which resembled human legs drifting toward Hanoi, but nobody bothered to recover them.
They also said after the discovery of the arm that they had seen another arm as well, but it had drifted away before they could do anything.
In the meantime, Thinh’s mother, Nguyen Thi Phu, said that for some time before her daughter left home on the night of June 17, she had begun hanging out with a group teens she believed to be drug addicts, citing their “abnormal” behavior.
Nguyen Van Tap, Thinh’s father, said there was a speculation that his daughter was murdered in order to take and sell her internal organs.
The case is being investigated further.
