Joining in the tributes were delegations from the provinces of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Thuan, Long An, Hau Giang, and Military Zone 7, along with 500 former political prisoners of Con Dao, war veterans, armed forces fighters, military command officers and civilians of Con Dao District.
In the two wars against the colonialists and imperialists, more than 20,000 Vietnamese sacrificed their lives and were made to rest in Hang Duong Cemetery, including revolutionary leaders, patriots such as Party General Secretary Le Hong Phong, patriot Nguyen An Ninh, and heroic martyr Vo Thi Sau.
Besides named tombs, there are many nameless graves of people from all parts of the country, who shared the same ideals, the will to fight and uphold the quality of communism.
Mr. Hai and other members of the delegation burnt incense and prayed to their ancestors, heroes and martyrs as well as fellow patriots who had bravely sacrificed themselves for the struggle for national liberation and unification.
The martyrs had contributed their lives and courage, boldly confronting the shackles, chains, prisons and the cruel torture of enemies, making heroic sacrifices for their Fatherland.
They are beautiful examples of revolutionary heroic mettle, courage, loyalty, indomitable spirit and faith in ideals. They deserve the love of the whole country.
